Seriously, again?

Posted by: Maya on: October 1, 2008

I know I’m only supposed to be writing about “happy” occurrences (at least that was a rule I made for myself) but I MUST share.

I signed up for LifeLock.

I shred EVERYTHING.

I only shop online with reputable sites.

I never let my credit cards out of my site.

I bought a mailbox with a lock.

Giang Doan Desai used my checkcard to purchase a Patriot Sata 2 internal solid plate disk from a computer in Philadephia and have it delivered to Santa Cruz, CA.  20 minutes later he/she tried to purchase a Canon camera.  Purchases totaling up to $1000 from NewEgg.com.

Giang, who are you? Why do you have my last name?

What is a Patriot Sata 2 internal solid plate disk?

NewEgg.com has nothing to do with eggs.

I call LifeLock.  They can’t help me – other than to tell me to call the bank and file a police report.   Brilliant!

I call the Bank, dispute charges, get temporary credit issued, destroy my checkcard and wait 5-7 business days for another one.

I file a police report.

I call NewEgg and tell them to reverse the orders.  Even though the order is in my name, they can’t give me shipping information and can only answer yes or no questions.

I have to wait 5 days to BUY the police report, so I can see Giang’s name on it and some address in Santa Ana, CA.

Police report also says: This is part of a large fraud ring where individuals will have the property mailed to their homes and then repackaged and sent to Vietnam, Nigeria, or Russia.

I’m just sayin.

2 Years at Automattic

Posted by: Maya on: September 5, 2008

2 years ago today was my first day at Automattic.  I didn’t even know what blogging was at the time!  I was pregnant with Priya my first day at the Pier (before it had carpet!).  So much has happened since then, personally and work-wise.  It’s definitely been an interesting time – I’ve learned a lot and met some very cool people.  There’s still LOTS more to do and I’m looking forward to new challenges ahead!

Don’t Panic!

Posted by: Maya on: August 20, 2008

That was my motto for this past weekend.  Fortunately there weren’t too many moments I thought I was going to explode.  The weekend started off with everyone flying in to SF on Thursday and Friday.  I was prepping all day Friday.  The speaker’s dinner ran super late; I left after the 2nd course at 10 p.m.!  There were 3 more courses to go but Marianne, Heather and I still need to finish up some things.  I was at the venue at 6:30 a.m. the next morning and was running around all day.  My legs hurt from running up and down the stairs for 8 hours.  The event was a huge success, BBQ and all.  I can’t wait to get the feedback and see what everyone thought and see what we can improve on for next year.  Thanks to everyone who helped me, especially Edith!  I couldn’t have done it without her!

Is that a tooth?

Posted by: Maya on: June 4, 2008

We noticed Amara’s first tooth today… It’s … bottom, right , front.  It’s just another sign that they won’t be babies for long…  !  It’s exciting to see them grow and learn but you just wish they could stay cute and cuddly forever.

Amara is still so so sweet, giggling, cooing and smiling at everyone and everything.

Priya is getting smarter and more clever.  She’s graduated to level 5 of Gymboree.

US

I think I’m going to blog more just to document Priya and Amara’s progress. I still have their baby books which I need to somehow catch up on but haven’t found the time between husband, babies, work, keeping my house in order and trying to get back into shape after having 2 babies in a row.

Priya is now 15.5 months and is growing up so fast. She watches me putting on my makeup and doing my hair in the morning and runs to the mirror and imitates me. She says: Mom, Dad, bye-bye and poop and makes an attempt at counting to 3. She can recognize plenty of words such as shoes, fish, laundry, cheerios, elephant, monkey, baby, dog. She loves to play outside and gives Amara hugs all the time. She tries to put the bottle and pacifier in Amara’s mouth by herself and pushes her in her swing. She goes to Gymboree twice a week now and participates in the singing and games. She goes to story hour once a week. She weighs over 30 lbs now and has already had her hair cut once “professionally”.  She’s very social, generous and kind-hearted.

Amara is 3.5 months now and is very social. She talks all day long and enjoys watching Priya play, sitting in her swing, watching her mobile and the fish. She doesn’t like a lot of noise when she’s sleeping and has been sleeping through the night for a while. She usually falls asleep around 10:30 – 11 and wakes up around 5 a.m. She loves to be carried and is wearing clothes for 6-12 months already. She weighs about 12 lbs now.  She smiles almost constantly and even laughs out loud sometimes.

Edison just bought a new motorcycle and is trying to get his MBA on the weekends and at night. Imagine that with 2 babies!

I am busy driving Priya and Amara to appointments, classes and working.  The company that I work for just recently had some good news and since then I’ve been busier than ever. I work in San Francisco every Thursday. I’m extremely grateful and lucky that my job allows me to be at home so I can see the girls whenever I want by just coming downstairs.  I get to play with them at lunch time too (if they’re awake!).  I’m trying to get back into exercising slowly – back into shape!! I try to spend all my free time with the babies.

Edison’s mom has been here since Amara was born and is a great help in the house. We do have a nanny that comes over everyday until 3 p.m. so I can work in peace in my office upstairs.  Neither the nanny nor Edison’s mom can speak any English and I think my Spanish has improved immensely.  Edison and I even had a chance to get to a concert last week.

We caved in and purchased the dreaded mini-van which I like to call “White Lightening”. I hate to admit it but it is super convenient and has quickly gotten filled up with toys, baby clothes, cheerios, strollers and other baby stuff.

We love the house that we live in. We have 4 bedrooms and a front yard so plenty of space for the kids to run around.

An Inconvenient Truth

Posted by: Maya on: March 24, 2008

We finally got around to watching this documentary on global warming by Al Gore.

I really like the personal and intimate approach using Al Gore’s life and also the poignant way it was delivered. He was very engaging and even funny at times. The only critique I would have is the only solutions offered were squeezed into about 5-10 minutes at the end of the film.

However the topic of the film is terrifying.

The average American generates about 15,000 pounds of carbon dioxide every year from personal transportation, home energy use and from the energy used to produce all of the products and services we consume.

Click here to see what you can do.  It can be something as simple as changing a light bulb or carpooling to work.

Everyone should see this film! This is not only an environmental issue but a moral one.

Tea (or Coffee) Time

I use my stylish WordPress mug every day at “tea time”.  It’s just the right size for a good cup of tea.  They’re now available at the WordPress shop.
