Babies don’t eat Sushi
September 11, 2007
I’ve been craving zarusoba for about 2 weeks now so we decide to try this Japanese restaurant in Redwood City. When you walk in, it’s very small but looks very nice (it’s not a dive at all). There are a few families with a couple kids each. First, they wouldn’t let us bring a stroller inside. Fine, we leave it outside. After all, it was small and I could understand it being a fire hazard. Second, we ask for a highchair. After much discussion amongst themselves, they disappear in the back and come out with a questionable looking booster seat. Priya is too small for it but fine, we strap her in and keep one arm around her. We finally order. Third, the waitress comes back and says we need to spend $10 minimum per person. Fine, between Edison and me we can order an appetizer along with our meals and have it come out to $20. No, she means we need to spend $30 because according to them, Priya, an 8 month old baby who has 7 teeth and eats mushed meat and formula, counts as a paying customer. Not fine. We ask to speak to the manager. According to her, our baby is taking up a chair and therefore needs to spend $10. She’s only taking up a chair because they did not provide a high chair. I blurt out that that’s illegal but I don’t really know if it is. Another question I have for them is, do they ask people in wheelchairs to park them at the door? Nice. We leave, outraged. Maybe it’s just us, but we think of Priya as our child, not a customer. I’ve added them to my list of boycotted places: Higuma Japanese Restaurant
540 El Camino Real, Redwood City, CA 94063. Don’t go there.

What crap! That is no way for them to treat you. They have forgotten what it means to be people.

that’s totally crazy.
You might want to check out Kabuto Sushi on Geary blvd.
We were there the other night with our little one and had a great time. They didn’t have a highchair ( we brought one of those portable ones w/ us ) but the sushi was awesome and the staff was super friendly and even seemed to enjoy the presence of a baby in the restaurant

You should have published his in the newspapers, Its beyond me how a resturant can treat its customers like that, especially when you have a small baby with you.
If I face something like this I usually give them a piece of my mind before i leave, I just wish I was there I would have set them right.
